Believer's Baptism

Baptism is the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart to Jesus Christ, (like a wedding ring).

It illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection:
“for when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.”

Col. 2:12

It illustrates our new lives as Christians:
“When a person becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!”
2 Cor. 5:17

What Baptism is not:

Baptism does not make you a Believer
- It shows that you already believe.
Baptism does not “save” you.
- only your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring. It is the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith…it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9

Who is eligible to be baptized?

Why should I be baptized?

How do I know I am ready to be baptized?

Who is eligible to be baptized?

  • Those who believe in Christ (John 3:36, Mark 16:16)
  • Those who receive Christ as their Savior and Lord (John 1:12, Rev.3:20)
  • Those who repent of their sins (Acts 17:30, 2:38)
  • Those who confess their sin (I John 1:9)

Why should I be baptized?
  • To follow the example set by Jesus…Mark 1:9 “at that time Jesus came from Nazareth and was baptized by John in the river”
  • Because Jesus commands it…Matt 28:19-20 “Jesus said, Go then, to all people everywhere and make them My disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and then teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Notice the order in the scripture:

    1. Make them My disciples (Accept)
    2. Baptize them (Be obedient)
    3. Teach them all about the Christian Life (Mature)

Too many people think they need to mature first, before they are baptized. Every person should be baptized as soon as possible after they become a believer.

  • It demonstrates that I really am a believer…Acts 18:8”…many of the people who heard Him believed and were baptized.” I John 2:3 “We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands.” Baptism is a step of obedience.

How do I know I am ready to be baptized?

Can I offer testimony:

  1. What was my life like before I received Christ?
  2. How did I come to know Christ?
  3. What is my life like after I received Christ?

If you are interested in being baptized please call the church office, 814-724-5074, to find out the next date for baptism.
